Serve the community. Lead with integrity. Save Metsimaholo.
The Service Movement for Metsimaholo is looking for committed, skilled individuals from our community to serve on the SMM Board, the highest decision-making body of the Movement.
Who Are We?
A movement built by Metsimaholo, for Metsimaholo.
The Service Movement for Metsimaholo (SMM) is a community-rooted political and civic movement focused on the Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State. We cover Sasolburg, Zamdela, Deneysville, Oranjeville, and surrounding areas.
We exist for one reason: to ensure that the people of Metsimaholo receive the basic services they deserve, governed by leaders who are transparent, accountable, and truly connected to the community.
Our work is built on three pillars: a registered Non-Profit Company (NPC) for civic and developmental work, an IEC-registered political party for electoral participation, and an open public Board for governance and oversight.

FAQs
Questions people are asking.
We want you to apply with full confidence. Here are honest answers to the most common questions.
Do I need to be a member of SMM to apply? +
No. You do not need to be an existing SMM member to be considered for the Board. What matters is your link to the Metsimaholo community, your relevant skills, and your commitment to ethical public service. The Board is a public governance structure, openly selected from the community.
Is this a paid position? +
Board membership is currently a voluntary service role. SMM is building towards a fully resourced governance structure. As the movement grows, formal remuneration policies will be reviewed and updated. What you invest now builds something lasting for Metsimaholo.
How much time does serving on the Board require? +
The Board meets monthly, with quarterly strategic reviews and an annual general session. Committee work adds additional meetings depending on your portfolio. On average, expect a commitment of 4 to 8 hours per month. Active involvement in community programmes may require more during peak periods.
Can I apply if I have no prior board or governance experience? +
Yes. Lived experience in your community, professional expertise in your field, and a genuine commitment to service are all valued. Some portfolios benefit from formal qualifications, but passion, integrity, and community rootedness matter just as much. We want a Board that truly reflects Metsimaholo.
What is the separation of powers in SMM and how does the Board fit in? +
SMM uses a five-layer governance model to ensure no single person controls everything. The Board is the strategic oversight layer. It is separate from the Administration Office (day-to-day operations) and from public representatives deployed to council. This means Board members govern and hold others accountable, they do not run daily operations or campaign in council on behalf of SMM at the same time.
What does the screening process involve? +
All shortlisted applicants will be asked to sign a declaration of interest form and may be asked to provide references or supporting documentation. The screening is focused on confirming your community link, your ethical record, and your capacity to serve. It is not designed to exclude, it is designed to protect the community and the movement.
What happens after I submit my application? +
All applications received before 19 June 2026 will be reviewed by the nominations process. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly. The selection process will be transparent and in accordance with the SMM Constitution and Governance Manual. All applicants will receive a response.
I live outside Metsimaholo but I was born there. Can I still apply? +
The eligibility requirement is a demonstrable link through residence, work, or sustained civic involvement. Being born in Metsimaholo is part of your story, but what matters most is your current or ongoing connection to the community. If you are actively involved in civic, professional, or community work that affects Metsimaholo, we encourage you to apply and explain that link in your application.
